Wiener Börse AG: 4th record earnings in a row

(Vienna) For the financial year 2007, Wiener Börse AG has reported the highest earnings since its establishment: Profit on ordinary business activity was EUR 50.95m, which is 59% higher than in the preceding year 2006. The operating result (EBIT) for 2007 was EUR 42.96m, which is an increase by 68% vs. the previous year.

“The excellent results – record earnings for a 4th time in a row – confirm our international growth strategy,” stressed the two management board members of Wiener Börse AG, Michael Buhl and Heinrich Schaller. Since last year, the exchange has had more foreign investment banks (42) for the first time as direct trading participants of the Vienna Stock Exchange than domestic ones (39). The growing number of trading members is clearly reflected in the development of monthly trading volumes, which were up again last year by 40% to EUR 14.7bn.

The international strategy pursued by Wiener Börse AG will be continued in the business year 2008: raising the number of foreign trading participants on the cash market and derivatives market, more roadshows at all major financial centers worldwide and enlarging the scope of cooperation with exchanges in Eastern and Southeast Europe in the area of index and data vending.
