Vienna Stock Exchange acquires two new international trading members

(Vienna) The Vienna Stock Exchange is pleased to welcome two new UK-based trading members – Hudson River Trading Europe Ltd started trading on the cash market of the Vienna Stock Exchange on 14 March and Spire Europe Limited started trading today, 17 March. Both financial service providers have registered offices in London. In the previous year four new members were admitted to the Vienna Stock Exchange. In total, 34 domestic and 59 international market participants are currently members of the Vienna Stock Exchange.

Right from the start, Spire Europe Limited will act as a market maker for 22 prime market shares. Market makers supply additional liquidity to the market and are required so that shares are included in continuous trading on the Vienna Stock Exchange. There are presently 165 market maker mandates on the prime market, which is the highest level in five years. "I am pleased that apart from the two Austrian market makers Raiffeisen Centrobank and Erste Group Bank – which play a key role with over 30 mandates for ATX Prime stocks – further international members are showing such a keen interest in market making," said Birgit Kuras and Michael Buhl, members of the Management Board of Wiener Börse AG.

Hudson River Trading announced that it would also be assuming market-making mandates on the Vienna Stock Exchange. The larger the number of active market makers on the Vienna Stock Exchange, the higher the liquidity available to investors.  Market makers receive a small compensation for the risk they take. The role of market maker is open to all members of the Vienna Stock Exchange.
